We see in this speech examples of the three different types of rhetoric. When it comes it Pathos we see Obama uses this in when he says that when a woman in Ohio is one sickness away from disaster after a lifetime of work and when a man in Indiana has to pack up his suitcase and sees it shipped off to China. Here we can see that people feel sad for those in similar situations or even for themselves but Obama puts a solution to these problems so that this feeling can go away. When Obama mentions that the United States is a better country than what it’s been doing it makes people feel pride for their country. Finally when he mentions that McCain said America was a nation of Whiners made people feel angry at him.
Obama uses Logos when he says that by electing McCain the only thing they will get is another four years of even more bad policies that have brought the U.S to the state it is right now. Also that McCain has voted 90% of the time for Bush instead of voting for something different. Finally he says that McCain told the people that the economy was fine and that its foundation was strong.
He uses Pathos when he tell’s people that he will reduce taxes on the middle class which makes people trust him more and feel more identified with him because he won’t make them go under a worse situation. He also used Pathos when he said that he will bring change to the situation. This will make people feel more identified with him because they believe they need change for everyone due to the harsh times happening. Finally when Obama mentioned that he has “the best temperament and judgment to be the next commander in chief” it evoked Pathos in people because it made people feel confidence and a good person in him because he is confident that he can win a debate on that theme because of all of that will make a good leader in the eyes of the people.
